The Healthy Home Design studio is an affordable way to have an architect guide you through the home design process so you can create a beautiful home that enhances the health and well-being of you and the planet.
Everyone deserves to live in a home that keeps them healthy, happy and safe.
Here at the Studio, I'll guide you through the renovation or new build design process so you can confidently create a healthy and sustainable home for your family.
Plus, you'll have the community support of like-minded people going through the same reno / home building journey as you, which is awesome, because doing it together is so much easier than doing it alone.
But for most people, home design is a completely new experience. And venturing into the unknown can cause fear and hold you back from getting started.
It's normal to feel like...
Right now you're not quite sure how to design a home that will keep your family and the planet healthy.
That's why it helps to have a wellness architect as your guide.
Access to the Healthy Home Design Studio prepares you to...
Building or renovating your home is probably one of the biggest investments you'll ever make, so it's important to get it right! The right design will make your life easier, improve your health and happiness, and nourish the planet
You'll save time and money when you have a guide and you're fully prepared for your project. Being prepared means you're going to get it right the first time so you don't have to waste time and money trying to fix a bad design or a major building restriction that was overlooked.
Your home design project shouldn't be keeping you up at night. When you know the next steps, anticipate the road blocks, and have a team that understands your vision, you'll be able to enjoy the journey.
Hi! I'm Kate Hamblet, a licensed architect that specializes in designing homes that enhance the health of people and the planet.
I know that not every budget allows for architectural design services. But just because you aren’t hiring an architect shouldn't mean your project isn't successful.
The thing is, there's a lot that goes into the home design process. And if you don't have experience with design and the building process, it can get pretty overwhelming and even turn ugly.
Generally if you don’t hire an architect, you take the risk of getting a lot of things wrong and that can be very costly.
I created the Healthy Home Design Studio to bridge the gap between going it alone and hiring a pricey architect because everyone deserves to live in a beautiful, comfortable, healthy home.
The Healthy Home Design Studio is a new program, and will probably go through some adjustments as we see what works best for everyone.
Here is a calendar of the monthly topics, but these may change to meet your needs.
A lot needs to happen in pre-design to be ready for design and construction. Here you'll prepare your purpose statement, program of spaces, budget, zoning research, and site analysis.
You'll also start looking into contractors and consultants.
This is the fun part! You get to design the layout and look of your home (with my guidance).
A lot of things happen in concept design that will make the rest of the process go more smoothly. We'll cover a lot of healthy and sustainable design strategies and look at big picture construction techniques.
We'll also walk through a basic computer drafting program if you want to test out drawing your own concept plans.
Here you'll start to learn how the plans and your home will come together. You'll get confident about building materials and how things work so you can talk to the construction team with confidence.
The construction documents set is what your contractor will use to build your house. It's like a set of instructions. You'll learn what needs to be considered in this phase of design and what needs to be in the construction set.
There are a few approaches to making a set of house plans that a contractor can build from, and we'll discuss the options here.
We'll walk through the general process of obtaining a building permit and make sure you're ready to submit your plans to your city to obtain your building permit.
Once your home is in construction there is still a lot to be done! Here you'll learn important things to keep an eye on and be involved in as your home is being built.
No monthly topic, but community, questions, and q&a's will still happen
What's a Healthy Home?!:
Good question! If healthy homes and wellness design are new terms for you, check out a few great resources to get familiar with what they mean and how they benefit you.
I'm nowhere near being ready to build my home. Will this studio benefit me?
Yes! This is the best time to join. You'll have plenty of time to figure out what you want to do and to get things right. Once you do decide to build, you'll be ready to go!
I'm already pretty far into my design. Is there any point to join the studio now?
Yes! It's not too late. This is a perfect time to go back to the beginning to make sure your goals are aligning with your design and you're fully prepared for the build.
My project is starting construction before you're scheduled to talk about construction. Can I still get my questions about the construction process answered?
Definitely! While the studio will follow a monthly topic schedule, you can ask questions about anything related to any part of the design process at any time! I'll be here to get your questions answered and get you ready to build.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yep! If you choose the monthly membership, and can cancel any month.
If you choose the yearly membership, you can choose to not re-enroll for the next year.
Do you offer refunds or free trials?
No, due to the nature of the educational sessions provided, I cannot offer a free trial or refunds. If you find it’s not for you, you can cancel after the first month. But what you’ll gain in that month will be beyond worth the investment.
